Once in a while we like to take a break from beer tasting and experience a little high culture. So when we stumbled on opera season in Verona, we decided to check it out. The show was great fun (luckily, we had researched the plot online first) and it was amazing to sit in the partial ruins of the old Roman amphitheater. The one down side – it was blazing sun and nearly 40° all day, so the stones of the theater were literally hot to the touch 3 hours after sunset (or as Kristina said, it was like sitting on a pre-heated pizza stone).
Using the old amphitheater means that all of the sets and props have to be stored on the street outside
We think these were for Aida, the show following Nabucco
It was pretty fun just to wander around the ruin
View from slightly better seats (Alex went to explore before the show started)
It was a great (but sweaty) evening
The production was fairly elaborate with complex sets, 100s of people and impressive constumes
The arena during intermission
Overall, we really enjoyd ourselves despite the heat and would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting Verona
Amazing!
