The anatomy of a 24-hour travel day

We just wanted to share the longest travel day of our trip so far. It certainly isn’t the worst ever (we’ve heard horror stories of 40+ hour travel days), but a little bit exhausting nonetheless.

Our day started with a 3:30 AM airport shuttle pick-up in Berkeley. We arrived at SFO in nearly record time, which isn’t as good as it sounds considering we were in a somewhat dodgy van speeding in the pouring rain.

Overall, the day went surprisingly well, due in a large part to caffeine (courtesy of Peet’s), fast food (graciously served by Panda Express, Einstein Bros. Bagels, and Carl’s Jr.), and sleep (thanks to Melatonin). Oh, and the single healthy highlight was an apple brought along from California.

After some confusion over the local time when we finally arrived in Montevideo (both of our phones updated to different times, neither of which turned out to be correct), we were lucky to enjoy a beautiful day in the capital of Uruguay.
