New York

We arrived at our last stop on the trip by bus, a surprisingly comfortable, cheap and convenient way to travel from DC to New York (we had gone by plane or train previously). We’ve been to New York many times before, so the focus of this short stop wasn’t particularly tourist oriented. We just planned to wander around the city, seek out some good food and catch up with old friends.

However, staying near Madison Square Park, we did manage to walk over to the Empire State Building, the Flatiron Building, Grand Central and Central Park. We also caught a baseball game and walked the Brooklyn Bridge. So without even trying, we managed to do a pretty good “48 hours in New York” list. Although the Yankees and Oakland A’s played a pretty uneventful game and the food at Yankee Stadium was surprising uninspiring (at least compared to some other newly built stadiums that we have been to), we still had a blast with Andy eating hotdogs and drinking beer on a somewhat cold spring evening.

Our very last day of our trip was spent wandering through Brooklyn Heights before getting a lift out to JFK for the flight back home. After such a long trip, we boarded the plane with mixed emotions – a little sad to be ending this amazing adventure, but also excited to start on what comes next.
